An artist is drawn to art, whether it’s within their chosen medium or beyond it. The ability to share and express creativity in its countless forms is the foundation of Second Life as a user-created platform. We’re free to share experiences without the limitations of Real Life and that is precisely what drives so many people into virtual reality.

Most of our creative FOCUS readers have taken part in the many art forms that are available in the virtual reality. One of the most dynamic art forms in Second Life is roleplay. Roleplay offers us the inimitable opportunity to create and live in our own world of our own making. We can exist in our distinct and very personal virtual reality.

While there are as many forms of roleplay as there are participants, one of the most popular forms is family roleplay. Reaching an unprecedented high in popularity since the pandemic began in 2020, those who pursue a family in Second Life can easily find it.

Lydia Fairmount — a long-time friend of FOCUS — alongside her friend Ghostie Antwoord, has recently begun a venture that supports a unique, intimate and emotional facet of family roleplay: the birth clinic. For those who want the roleplay experience of having children, it usually begins — as it would in RL —with the exciting aspects of conception and birth. The Everlove Maternity Clinic strives to enhance one’s pregnancy experience through personal care and making each and every one of their clients feel like family.

Ghostie Antwoord, who roleplays as Dr. Ghostie Antwoord, has been working a midwife and doctor in SL for over two years. With a true passion for family roleplay combined with her RL medical experience, Dr. Ghostie brings authenticity and substance to the SL pregnancy experience. She and Lydia both entrench themselves into the roleplay to provide customized care for each mother-to-be to make pregnancy a memorable and significant event. Their packages range from Mini Births, which includes intake and birth only, to a no-holds-barred package including photography, lamaze, massage and breastfeeding assistance.

What makes Everlove distinctive – in addition to being run exclusively by women – is that care doesn't stop at birth. They take pride in offering two months of postpartum checks for both mommy and baby, adding to the realness of the experience by making sure mommies and babies are adjusting well after birth.

Whether you are a seasoned family roleplayer who is interested in the birthing experience, or brand new and would like to learn about things like Mama Allpa and Hands on Mommy births, contact Lydia for more information. As an experienced mother herself with two years maternity experience in SL and over 20 years of medical experience in RL, Lydia joins Dr. Antwoord in bringing compassion and sincerity to their work. They strive to give each and every client the best and most realistic care for a satisfying birth experience that they as mothers themselves would want and expect with pregnancy and birth.
